The Mandeville Trailhead Community Market (MTCM)

Emphasis is on locally grown and locally made wares that accentuate the qualities that make our community special. The market is not only a place to buy or sell your goods but a place to bring the whole family for FREE entertainment, along with cooking and educational demonstrations.


The market is open rain or shine,
every Saturday, 9am-1pm
at the Mandeville Trailhead.


Mission:
The MTCM was founded to attract shoppers to our neighborhood community and to provide affordable retailing opportunities to local farmers, artisans, and small businesses.

Objectives:
  • To make the site an inviting, safe, and lively place that attracts a wide range of people and encourages them to mix and interact easily in a festive mood.
  • To promote Old Mandeville as a consumer and tourist marketplace.
  • To enhance existing downtown businesses and to promote future economic development, the arts, and downtown livability.
  • The market is open rain or shine, every Saturday, 9am-1pm: at the Mandeville Trailhead.

Special features of the Mandeville Market include:
  • Vegetables: hot-house tomatoes, squash, eggplant, tomatoes, wide selection of specialty lettuce, large variety of greens, okra, peppers, peas, cabbage, cucumbers, red Russian kale, sweet potatoes; a wide variety of sprouts and much more.
  • Citrus: local seasonal citrus such as Ponchatoula strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, Plaquemines Parish citrus; and many others
  • Seafood: jumbo shrimp, soft-shell crabs, fresh crabmeat and crawfish
  • Teas: locally blended teas and curries
  • Baked goods: fresh blackberry, sweet potato, pecan, and apple pies; Cajun tarts; Old World breads; croissants; cakes; Italian cookies; pralines; scones, turnovers and sugar-free desserts
  • Prepared foods: Homemade tamales; gumbo; stuffed artichokes; chicken Kiev; crawfish pies; crab & shrimp pies; chicken pot pies; crawfish, shrimp, and chicken fettuccine; etouffee’; homemade soups; authentic Mexican salsa; pestos; hummus; cheeses; breakfast bries; pickled vegetables; jams & jellies; herbal vinegars and more
  • Plants & Flowers: Ferns, shrubs, fresh-cut flower bouquets; trees, bedding plants, specialty ferns from all over the world; bromeliads; and orchids
  • Herbs: Fresh plants and cut herbs (dried and fresh) including rosemary, tarragon, oregano, and chives
  • Homemade bath & body works: soaps, scrubs, lotions, lip balms and much more
  • Artisans include a wide variety of handmade jewelry, scarves and stoles made with Italian yarn, paintings, pottery, birdhouses and hand painted gourds, stained glass items, hand-tinted photographs and much more!

Directions to the Mandeville Trailhead from Slidell or Hammond:
  • Take 1-12 east or west to the LA 59 exit, Exit Number 65.
  • Go approx 2.9 miles south on LA 59, where it becomes LA 59/Girod Street.
  • Continue South on Girod Street less than 1/2 mile (fire station on left).
  • Turn right after crossing old RR tracks (now Tammany Trace) into Trailhead parking lot – Woodrow St.
Directions to the Mandeville Trailhead from Metairie:
  • Take Causeway Bridge North to Mandeville.
  • Stay in right lane when coming off of bridge, and veer to right.
  • Approx. 300 yards you will come to a traffic light (Monroe Street)
  • Take a right on to Monroe Street.
  • Go east on Monroe Street, and continue to first traffic light (Girod Street).
  • Turn Left on to Girod Street.
  • Proceed two blocks north-Trailhead parking on left by fountains. If you cross old RR tracks, you’ve just missed parking lot entrance.

Sec. 13-15: Rules and Regulations governing the use of the Mandeville Trailhead are outlined as follows:
  1. Hours of Operation:
    Monday - Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  2. Rules:
    • No Littering
    • No Sitting or Climbing on Railings
    • No Bicycles, Skateboards, or Roller Blades/Skates
    • No other wheeled conveyances except those used by handicapped persons
